I know it could be worse. But I was promised acne-free skin for YEARS.
“You won’t have acne when you’re older.”
Okay…so where is my pimple-free skin? How much older do I have to get? It’s like when my mom said that all my fat would go to my height, and it absolutely did not happen. The fat didn’t magically migrate. I am still short. And still fat. And this is why I have trust issues. I cannot wait another day to see my skin magically improve on its own because it will not happen. So I am going to do something about it.
First, we start with an honest evaluation of the current status. Here’s a closeup of my skin, and this isn’t even the worst it’s been.

There’s also brown spots and scars from previous breakouts and overall dryness…and wrinkles that’s starting to appear under my eyes and enlarged pores on/near the nose.
Here’s a before and after I apply makeup, so yes, my skin problem is not terribly difficult to cover up, but I want to be able to wear NO makeup and feel confident AF.

So two things I will implement starting today:
- Sleep more
- Eat more veggies
- Use better skincare products
Sleep more
I had the best skin ever when I forced to sleep at least 8-9 hours a day, back when I was living with my parents after high school (aka college dropout days). Compared to then, I only get about 6-7 hours of sleep a night these days. So more sleep. Quality sleep.
Eat more veggies
In my current diet:
But I know it’s good form me — vitamins, minerals, blah blah, so I will make an effort to eat veggies with all my meals. Plus my mom who eats organic vegetables and fruits obsessively has amazing skin…and she’s almost 60.
Better skincare products
So for someone who is writing a whole blog post about her skin, I’ve been doing a terrible job of taking care of my skin in general, mainly because I’m super lazy. For the last year, this has been the only thing I use for my face:
I liked it because I could literally lather it on my face, neck, and the rest of my body (because it’s cheap and lightweight), but it’s not moisturizing enough for my aging skin & it has no SPF.
So here are my new regulars:
- Light Moisturizer with SPF 15 from Simple (no harsh chemicals, apparently)
- Acne Blemish Control Daily Skin-Clearing Treatment from Kiehl’s
Hopefully I can see some improvements soon, but they say that it takes at least 3 months for your skin to get better, so I’m not holding my breath.
Oh and I should probably pick up something for my under-eye wrinkles…but I can only address one problem at a time, so I will think about it later!
Do you have recommendations for acne-prone/dry skin? What is your secret to good skin?
Thank you for your tips and recommendations! 🙂 I recommend using korean skin care products and following their skin care routine. It may be a lot of steps but it did approve my skin! Hope this helps 🙂

My secret is my dermatologist. I have a LOT of skin problems, and some can only be addressed by a professional.
XD Also good sleep and a regular skincare routine. I don’t do anything really crazy with my routine or use a lot of expensive products (although I do like to splurge on moisturizers and cleansing oil.)
